NSW: Four injecting room sites to be unveiled this week
Four potential sites for Australia's first legal heroin injecting room will be announced
next week.
The safe injecting room must be set up in the Kings Cross area of central Sydney.
The Uniting Church Board of Social Responsibilty became the licensee for the controversial
clinic last month.
And it will conduct its first public meeting about the proposed trial tomorrow (Mon).
More than 100 people are expected to fill St John's Anglican Church hall to hear about
the proposal.
Uniting Church state community services manager WARREN TALBOT says sites have been
earmarked and will be discussed with residents at the meeting.
The New South Wales government has said the 18-month trial will start in April or May next year.
The proposed sites are located in buildings in Darlinghurst Road and in Macleay, Orwell
and Brougham streets.
A possible fifth site situated in Victoria Street might also be raised at the meeting.
Once an appropriate site has been nominated, the church will lodge its licence application.
